I worked on Baxters for a couple of years launching new ranges and flavours. It was a great product to work on and, as a client, they were to be lauded for their allegiance to the Scottish advertising industry. A trip to the ‘factory’ was always a tasty experience and one might even have had the honour of meeting the self styled laird of Fochabers Mister Gordon Baxter (doff one’s cap) himself. A giant of a man in stature and character, he would inevitably regale us with his story of how many times he had turned down offers of purchase from Heinz (including, reputedly, blank cheques) and sent them scuttling away down the mighty Spey. If I heard that story once, I must have heard it 57 times.
